Habitrol 2mg Fruit Flavoured gum is intended to aid smoking cessation by reducing nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
We recommend 2mg chewing gum if you are smoking less than 20 cigarettes a day. You do not need to chew the same number of gum pieces as the number of cigarettes you used to smoke. You can use the gum on a regular basis throughout the day (say, every hour or so) or you can use the gum when you feel you need to. If you are using the gum regularly through the day we recommend that you do not exceed a maximum usage of 24 pieces per day.
The nicotine is absorbed into the blood stream through the lining of the mouth when the gum is chewed. Habitrol chewing gum 2mg Fruit Flavoured contains approximately one third less nicotine than a cigarette, and allows you to avoid the harmful physical and chemical effects associated with smoking.
The recommended minimum length of treatment is three months. You can follow the recommended 12-week dosage program, or you can use the gum as needed.
Chewing a piece of Habitrol chewing gum 2mg Fruit Flavoured at the onset of nicotine cravings should alleviate nicotine cravings and/or withdrawal symptoms.
Most people find they can cease using the gum after six months, but some heavy smokers choose to continue using the gum in order to prevent relapse.

Active Ingredients:
Each Piece of Gum contains 2mg Nicotine
Suggested Use:
Place 1 piece of chewing gum in your mouth and bite slowly and deliberately about 15 times, or until a strong taste or tingling sensation is felt.
These sensations indicate nicotine release.
Stop chewing and park or place the chewing gum between your cheek and the gums.
When the intensity of these sensations decreases or disappears, start to chew the gum again.
Repeat this cycle of "park and chew" for about 30 minutes, or until the peppery taste and tingling sensation subside.
There are 3 programs that you can follow to use Habitrol Chewing Gum:
12 week program

1. Week 1-6: Chew 1 piece of chewing gum every 1 to 2 hours
2. Week 7-9: Chew 1 piece of chewing gum every 2 to 4 hours
3. Week 10-12: Chew 1 piece of chewing gum every 4 to 8 hours.
Quit Now Program
1. Chew one gum slowly when you feel the urge to smoke (refer to pack leaflet for full instructions). Do not exceed 10 gums in one day.
2. After around 3 months, gradually cut down the amount of gum you use each day.
3. When you are down to 1-2 gums per day, you can stop using Habitrol Chewing Gum. This should be possible within 6 months from the start of treatment.
Reduce to Quit Program
1. When you feel the urge to smoke, chew one gum slowly instead of smoking a cigarette (refer to pack leaflet for full directions).
2. Gradually increase gum use for up to 6 months, while cutting down smoking. Do not exceed 10 gums in one day.
3. When you have cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke to a level where you feel you can quit completely, follow the Quit Now Program.
4. If you have not cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke each day after 6 weeks, see your doctor or pharmacist.
Cautions:
Habitrol Chewing gum should not be used for anyone under 18 years of age, or by nonsmokers.
You should not smoke while using Habitrol chewing gum.
Do not use this gum if you are pregnant, intend to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.
Please consult with your doctor or pharmacist before starting a program with Habitrol gum if you are taking any form of prescription medicine, or if you suffer from any form of heart or vascular disease, diabetes, liver or kidney disease or have an overactive thyroid condition.
Swallowing the nicotine contained in the gum may aggravate other conditions, such as active oesophagitis, mouth inflammation, gastritis, or peptic ulcers.
The most common side effects associated with Habitrol gum are headaches, dizziness, and insomnia.
Sometimes there can be some common minor side effects associated with Habitrol Chewing Gum for the first few days?
These include:
Headache
Dizziness
Insomnia
A bitter taste
Hiccups
Sore throat
Feeling sick or dizzy
If you tend to get indigestion, mild indigestion or heartburn.
None of the above side effects are serious and if you get them, try reading the chewing instructions again to check you are not chewing the gum too fast or too often.
Other side effects are uncommon, but may include palpitations, an irregular heartbeat, a rash or itching or swelling of the tongue or mouth,
If any of these occur stop using the gum and tell your doctor or pharmacist or use as directed.
