A-Scabies Permethrin Lotion 30ml

This medicine is used for the treatment of scabies.
Before applying this medicine, ensure that your skin is clean, dry and cool.
What is Scabies?
Scabies is a common skin condition causing intense itching. Anyone can catch scabies by coming into direct physical contact with people who have the condition. You can also catch scabies from wearing the clothes of someone who has scabies, or sleeping in that person's bed. It is not passed-on from animals.
Scabies is not caused by being dirty. It can be treated safely and you can stop it from spreading to other people.
What causes scabies?
Scabies is caused by tiny insects, called mites, that burrow under the surface of the skin laying eggs as they go. Above the mite, on top of the skin, small bisters and red patches form. These blisters are very itchy due to an allergic-type reaction to the mite and its faeces. The blisters can become infected with bacteria if scratched.
Treatment:
To kill the mites, you need a special lotion called permethrin. Permethrin lotion can help to kill the scabies mites as well as prevent them from spreading.
Active Ingredients:
Permethrin 5% w/w
A-Scabies also contains: propyl paraben, methyl paraben, imidazolidinyl urea, menthol, triclosan, xanthan gum, polyethylene glycol-40 castor oil, cetearyl alcohol & PEG-20 stearate, liquid paraffin and propylene glycol.
Directions / How to Use
For adults & children 2 years of age or older: Apply thoroughly to whole body from the neck to the soles of the feet, paying particular attention to the areas between the fingers and toes (including under finger and toe nails), wrists, armpits, genitals and buttocks. Do not apply to the head or face. Leave the medicine on for 8-14 hours then wash off completely.
Infants and children between 2 months and 2 years of age, should also have their necks, faces, ears and scalps treated. Infants under 2 months: Not recommended.
Avoid the area around the mouth and the eyes. In the event of eye contamination, rinse with plenty of water immediately.
Usually, one 30ml bottle is sufficient for an adult or children aged 12 years or older. Some adults may require the use of a second bottle.
For children aged 5-12 years normally up to half a bottle should be used. For children aged 1 to 5 years up to quarter of a bottle is normally used, and for infants aged 2 to 12 months one eighth of a bottle.
One application is generally sufficient to clear the scabies infection. If you are uncertain about the success of the treatment consult your doctor. You may still experience persistent itching after treatment. This is not usually a sign of treatment failure or an indication re-treatment is required. Itching usually persists for a few days, maybe even weeks after treatment, even though the mite has been killed. This is because it takes time for the allergic reaction to subside.

This medicine is for external use only.
If you or anyone else you think have ingested this medicine, immediately telephone your doctor or the National Poisons Information Centre (0800 POISON or 0800 764 766 in New Zealand) for advice, or go to your nearest Accident and Emergency Centre.
A-scabies occasionally causes side effects in some people e.g. burning, itching, numbness, rash, redness, stinging, swelling or tingling of the scalp.
These are usually mild and will pass quickly.

Keep the bottle tightly closed.
Protect from light.
Store below 30 °C.
Keep out of the reach of children.
