Helpful Hints On Applying Herbatint:
When applying Herbatint for the first time, make sure to use the whole mixture and cover all the hair. This will ensure even coverage. For applying Herbatint on previously tinted hair just apply to the re-growth at the roots but take through to the ends for the last 5- 10 minutes only if you feel hair colour has faded. Avoid putting colour through to the ends every time you re-colour or you will get a build up of colour over time.
How to use Herbatint as a 'Quasi' or 'Demi' result which lasts 16 - 18 washes. Not recommended to cover grey but it is an ideal way for first time users to experiment without having long lasting results.
Mix: 30 mls Herbatint 15 mls Normalising Shampoo 15 mls Glycol Developer
Apply colour to hair that has been shampooed and towel dried. Leave to process for 20 -25 minutes before shampooing off.
Why it's important to use the correct shampoo and conditioner in conjunction with the colouring process.
The Normalising Shampoo should be used as part of the colouring process as it has been formulated to neutralise and halt further oxidisation. The Royal Cream Conditioner has also been formulated to close the cuticles on the hair shaft and seal in the colour. Whilst the cuticle remains open hair could feel coarse and porous.
Test Strand for Colour:
If you decide to be daring with colour selection, we recommend that you perform a test strand first. Mix just enough of the colour with equal parts of the Glycol developer to cover a strand of hair.
Tips to Help with Colour Selection:
It is always wisest to select a colour close to your natural shade.
If hair has 50% or more grey, you will need to select a colour from the 'natural' range (base colours) numbered 1N - 10N.
You can if you wish mix in a proportion of the Ash, Copper, Golden and Mahogany range. In order to achieve a total coverage of grey with the Ash, Golden, Copper and Mahogany colour series, it is suggested to mix the chosen colour (40ml) with a natural series colour of the same number (20ml) or if more convenient 30mls of each works well. Always use equal quantities of colour with Glycol.
If your hair has less than 50% grey and you wish to just cover the grey, select a shade 1-2 shades lighter than the desired outcome because when you add colour onto colour it will always go darker.
If hair has little or no grey, the copper, ash, golden and mahogany shades can be used without mixing in a 'natural' base colour.
The 'C' series (Ash colours) may be used as 'colour correctors' to contain or control traces of red or gold tones just as the 'M' & 'R' (Red colours) can be used to control traces of ash.
Hair that has been coloured dark is sometimes difficult to lighten. Dark colours have larger pigments absorbed into the hair shaft leaving no room for the hair to absorb any lighter pigments. Light hair can readily absorb dark colours.
You should be able to lighten brown or chestnut hair by 1 to 2 shades and lighten up to three shades on light chestnut to blonde hair using Herbatint.
Dry, permed or colour treated hair tends to be more porous than normal hair and will take colours more readily. The effect will be more intense colour. You need to bare this in mind when making colour selection. If you have had a perm, wait at least one week before colouring.
Sensitivity Test Patch For Allergy:
Always do a skin test prior to each application. Mix pea sized amounts of Herbatintâ„¢ colour and Developer and apply to skin (behind ear or on forearm below elbow). Leave on skin for 48 hours taking care not to wash off during this time. If you experience any reaction during this time (itchiness, swelling, redness) do not use the product. The same test can be applied to Vegetal if you are in any doubt as to sensitivity to the product ingredients.
Herbatint:
A herbal based permanent hair colour with aloe vera, no paraben, NO AMMONIA and only 3% peroxide. Herbatint grows out and hair re-growth will need re-colouring in approximately four weeks. Herbatint has fewer chemicals in than other permanent hair colours on the market and unlike products which contain ammonia it has no smell once mixed. The absence of ammonia results in little or no penetration of the epidermis and is less likely for people to have allergic reactions.
In recent times there have been articles written about the risks of permanent Hair Colours and linking use of permanent colours to some forms of cancers. In 2005 the European Union decided it was time to regulate the use of chemicals in hair dyes. The Italian makers of Herbatint have to comply with European Union standards, currently there are no standards in place for Non European products. One of the chemicals which causes concern from people with allergies is p-phenylenediamine, more commonly referred to as PPD. This is present in all permanent hair dyes, with concentrations of PPD being larger in the darker colours. European standards allow makers to use up to 6% of PPD in hair products. Herbatint contains only 0.6% -0.7% in the darker colours and has only traces of it in the light colours. This is considerably less than many of the other hair colours available in both Europe and NZ. The lack of ammonia in Herbatint prevents absorption of dye into the epidermis and it's therefore less likely to cause allrgic reactions and there are also no toxic fumes to be inhaled. A lot of people are under the misconception that the danger lies in the penetration of the colour product in to the scalp. The truth of the matter is that it is the inhalation of toxic fumes which can be harmful. Consumers concerned about peroxide will be happy to learn that Herbatint contains the minimum strength of peroxide necessary to open up the hair cuticle. Herbavita are committed to limiting the types and concentrations of chemicals in their Herbatint line as much as possible.
Herbatint contains 60 ml Haircolour Gel, 60 ml Glycol Developer, I pair of gloves, 15 mls shampoo and 15 mls Royal Cream Conditioner, and directions for use.
Customers with short hair or covering regrowth only may get more than one application from the pack.
